Pianoforte Tuners' Association

Only registered Members may use the PTA logo or letters MPTA , which stands for 'Member of the Pianoforte Tuners' Association.'

I am proud to have qualified for PTA Membership, because the entrants test is of a very high standard.

I had to pass a practical test of tuning and elementary repairs, and an oral test of knowledge of tuning, construction and repair of pianos, having first completed an approved course at a recognised college (or trained at a recognized workshop for three years) and gone on to earn my living in this work for three more years to bring my total experience to five years.

I find Membership invaluable for bringing people together, keeping up with news and technical developments, the seminars and training days which are organized and the library of specialist books.

It also gives me peace of mind (and would to my customers too if they thought of it!) to know that I have Public Liability Insurance for up to £5,000,000.

The Association also aims to educate the public on how to look after pianos; the need for regular and skilled tuning and servicing. We have a running article 'Piano Clinic' in Pianist Magazine.
