Since training at the London College of Furniture some 12 years ago in the traditional skills of tuning and restoration, I have steadily built up experience in this very specialist field and qualified to be a member of the Pianoforte Tuners' Association in 2005. My time is now divided between travelling to set up pianos to be played in homes, schools, colleges, studios etc, and the workshop where more major work goes on, from replacing worn cashmere linings in keys, to repairing splits in the soundboard with spruce shims and re-stringing.
Tuning: My fee is usually £48 for West London and the surrounding areas, £55 for Central London.
There are special rates for educational establishments etc. where there is enough work to warrant a contract.
If you are considering Restoration Work I will advise you what the possibilities are for your piano. I do have a fee of £35 for giving quotations because it tends to be a complex process, but that amount is counted as part of the deposit of any work you go ahead with. If you cannot be without a piano for the time it is going to be away for work, I can provide you with an upright in its place.
The cost of Removals depends on the distance and complexity of the move.
Upright removals cost from £75, grands from £135. Please contact me for a quote, with details of distance and stairs etc involved.
If you need a Valuation for insurance purposes or because you are thinking of selling your piano and would like to know how much you should ask for it, I will give you a technical report and valuation for £35.
Similarly, if you have been offered a second-hand piano it is a good idea to have me check its condition to advise you how much you should pay for it and whether it is likely to need work in the near future.
